California Bicentennial Honors Conservation Pioneer

It's the Official California American Revolution Bicentennial Medallion created in 1976.

The American Revolution Bicentennial Commission of California commissioned it.

It was minted by The Lincoln Mint in Chicago.

The obverse (front) features John Muir with Yosemite's Half Dome and sequoia trees, labeled "Conservation Pioneer."

The reverse (back) displays the American Revolution Bicentennial logo with commemorative text.

Daniel Alonzo, an 18-year-old high school senior, designed the medallion and won a $1,500 scholarship.

His design highlights John Muir's role in establishing Yosemite National Park.

Alonzo plans to use his scholarship to pursue a career in art and photography.
